Title: Kogi Set To Sack Unqualified, “Ghost” Teachers
Post by: Shola Sholaz on Jun 23, 2014, 08:34 PM
The Kogi State Government is perfecting plans to weed out unqualified and non-performing teachers from the teaching service workforce in the state.
.
This was made known by the Chairman, Interim Management Committee of the Kogi State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), Mr Steven Aku, who said that his team have commenced teachers' certificate verification as some teachers used fake certificates to gain employment.
.
Aku lamented that it is alarming to discover that some people who did not attend tertiary institutions forged certificates with high qualifications to gain employment as teachers.
.
He also added that some people who works in another state including Abuja collect salaries on a monthly basis from Kogi as teachers while some retirees still have their names on the payment vouchers.
.
"These are the anomalies we want to correct with the teacher's verification exercise which is ongoing in the state", said Mr Aku.
.
He however urged those who regard themselves as teachers without genuine certificates to quietly leave the system before the law catches up with them.
