Report reaching Theinfostrides.com news desk has it thatm the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union (COEASU) on Thursday said it would hold its National Executive Council meeting on July 1 to take final position on its six-month-old strike.

The COEASU Chairman, Federal College of Education (Technical), Akoka chapter, Lagos, made this known to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos.

According to him, all the union chapter chairmen have been summoned to converge in Abuja for a meeting on Tuesday.

"The meeting will focus on reviewing and updating members on the level of discussion with the government toward ending the strike. "After the meeting, we will take a decisive position on the strike,'' he said.

Taiwo said the meeting between the union and the representatives of the Federal Government earlier scheduled to hold on June 24 was postponed till next week.

"The union has held series of meeting with the government but could not reach a logical conclusion,'' he said.

The chairman urged the Federal Government to be more committed to meeting the demands of the union toward ending the strike.

"We want serious commitment from the Federal Government before we call off the strike. "It does not worth it to call off the strike after a long time without any commitment from the government,'' he said.

The COEASU lecturers had on Dec. 31 embarked on indefinite strike to demands for the implementation of 2010 agreement with the Federal Government and development of infrastructure in the institutions.

It also complained of poor funding, non release of the white paper on visitation panel reports and imposition of the Integrated Personnel and Payroll Information System.
