Post by: Shola Sholaz on Jul 03, 2014, 08:56 PM
The Benue State chapter of the Nigerian Union of Teachers (NUT) has called-off their eight month old strike and has scheduled to resume full academic activities on Monday 7th July as the state government has agreed to the demands of the teachers.
.
Benue State chairman of NUT, Godwin Anya, said that negotiations between the national body and state government yielded good results leading to the suspension of the strike.
.
Anya added that the government would pay the teachers two months salaries out of what they are being owed before the end of this week based on old rate, after which it will commence implementation of the minimum wage.
.
It will be recalled that the teachers of government-owned primary schools in Benue state embarked on strike eight months ago to demand payment of the minimum wage as being enjoyed by other workers.
