The Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) have listed the final conditions to the Federal Government before they can call-off the ongoing industrial action.
.
Stating these conditions, the ASUP chairman, Federal Polytechnic, Offa, Dr Sola Ojeniyi, said that the government should approve the establishment of the national polytechnic commission (NPC) and enforce the total removal of the dichotomy between university and polytechnic education before the lecturers strike will be suspended.
.
Dr. Ojeniyi lamented the government's negligence towards polytechnic education in Nigeria and urged that proper funding should be directed to polytechnics.
.
"It is a symbolic display of apathy against
children of the poor that were denied opportunity of university education and attempt to remove every dignity attached to their portion", he said.
.
He called on the federal government to quickly resolve the current crisis as the over a year-old strike is negatively affecting the countries economy and the masses generally.
