Post by: Shola Sholaz on Aug 20, 2014, 03:56 AM
Student's poor performance in public examinations has been attributed to the erratic power supply in the country by Chief Yomi Ogunnusi, a member of the House of Representatives.
.
Hon. Ogunnusi, who represents Ifako-Ijiaye constituency in Lagos, said that unstable power supply in the country was disincentive to learning, adding that it had discouraged students from studying hard.
.
It will be recalled that only 31.28 percent of candidates that sat the 2014 West African Secondary School Certificate, WASSCE, had credits in five subjects, including English and Mathematics against the 36.57 per cent recorded in 2013.
.
Also 1,148,262 candidates, representing 67.84 per cent obtained credits and above in 4 subjects and 1,293,389 candidates, representing 76.42 per cent, obtained credits and above in 3 subjects.
.
However, the results of 145,795 candidates, representing 8.61 per cent of the total number of candidates that May/June exam were withheld as a result of various types of examination malpractice.
