Post by: Shola Sholaz on Nov 26, 2014, 01:53 AM
The authorities of the University of Jos (UNIJOS) have announced the closure of the institution indefinitely following further protests by students over alleged school fees hike.
.
According to an official release by the University Registrar, Jilli-Dandam D. Esq., which read thus:
On Monday November 24, 2014 students of the University of Jos embarked on a peaceful demonstration against certain issues.
.
Management met and issued a release assuring students and members of the University Community that some of the issues raised by the students were nothing but rumours that had no basis. However, certain steps were taken to address all the grievances including the shifting of the Second Semester Examinations with one (1) week and the setting up of a Committee to look at the other issues.
.
This morning, Tuesday November 25, 2014 students mobilized themselves again and blocked the Bauchi Road Highway and set tyres on fire.
.
In order to avoid further escalation of the situation, Management met this morning and directed that the University should be closed down until further notice. Students are hereby directed to vacate the hostels on or before 2pm.
.
Please ensure that this directive is strictly complied with.
.
Best of luck To You all...
