A student of Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH), Usman Oloyede, was on Wednesday charged before a Yaba Magistrates' Court in Lagos for belonging to an unlawful fraternity and threatening the life of the Rector.

The 26-year-old student is being tried on a five-count charge of conspiracy, unlawful fraternity, threat to life, impersonation and a breach of public peace which contravened Sections 40, 42, 230, 378 and 409 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The prosecutor, Inspector Chris Takim, told the court that the accused and others still at large, between 2008 and September 23, 2014 at the Yaba College of Technology, conspired to organise a secret society known and called "EIYE".

Takim alleged that the accused and his accomplices on September 23, sent a text message through cell phone no 080**** to the Rector of the college, one Dr.Margaret Ladipo, threatening to kill her.

Oloyede pleaded not guilty to the charges.

The Magistrate, Mrs M.A Oshibanjo, granted the accused bail in the sum of N20,000 with one surety in like sum and adjourned the case to November 28, for substantive trial.
