01 January 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:
In 2014, Nigeria learnt a very important lesson in the power of unity as the Ebola Virus Disease brought out the best in us which enabled us defeat one of the worst plagues the world has seen. We were moved by the high ideals of patriotism to come together and work as one. If we can do this to the glory of God and to the forward March of our Nation, we can do it again.
My dear friends on Facebook, my message to you and to Nigeria is that we must build on that unity in 2015. Nothing and no one should divide us.
I urge all Nigerians in the New Year to speak and act only in ways that will grow our unity and build bridges amongst our peoples. We have so much to gain by this. Already, our economy, by our collective efforts, is now the largest economy in Africa and the 26th largest in the world. Working together, we can all build our economy to become among the top largest economies in the world. Our goal is to uplift our people from poverty and place them firmly on the ladder of prosperity.
We must consolidate our democracy. We must make the 2015 elections a poll amongst brothers and sisters not foes and opposition. We can only do this by conducting ourselves with decorum whether as candidates or followers. I have said again and again that my ambition to serve you is not worth the spilling of any Nigerian blood. No! We must by our conduct project national ideals of peaceful coexistence for we are one people. Region or religion must not divide us.
In 2015 we must continue our ongoing efforts in lifting Nigeria up. At this time our ongoing efforts has seen us build infrastructure that facilitates unity and togetherness. The Lagos-Kano route of our railways have been revived as has the Port Harcourt-Enugu route. Work on the coastal railway from Lagos to Calabar will soon commence and the Lagos-Ibadan high speed rail is now at advance stage of commencement. The Abuja-Kaduna Standard Gauge Railway has now reached completion stage. The Lagos-Ibadan road the busiest in West Africa is near completion too. To reduce the distance between North and South, we have ensured that the Loko-Oweto bridge is fast progressing towards completion even as the River Niger is being dredged up to Baro in Niger state.
These are some few examples at the infrastructure level. My dear friends on Facebook, we will work to ensure that we become self sufficient in food production. Already our food import bill has dropped from a whopping 1.1 trillion naira to 624billion naira and still falling. We are working hard to improve on our education by focussing on ACCESS and QUALITY.
We must ensure that no Nigerian child is denied access to education. I want you my friends on Facebook to join me in specially thanking our men and women in uniform as well as all the security agencies for their hard work and sacrifices. They continue to work hard even under challenging circumstances. We will continue to support our armed forces and security agencies by retooling and equipping them. I am convinced that Nigeria will make greater gains in the area of security in 2015 and we will do it together. I wish you all a happy and prosperous New Year. God bless you all and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. ForwardNigeria. GEJ.
02 January 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:
As we celebrate Eid el Maulud, I felicitate with the Muslim Ummah on this special day.
All Nigerians must seize the opportunity of Eid-el-Maulud to deeply reflect on the need for greater application of Prophet Mohammed's teachings which border on piety, charity, tolerance, justice and peaceful co-existence with others in the collective effort to overcome current national challenges.
I reassure Muslims and all other Nigerians that the Federal Government will do all within its powers to ensure that the general elections in February are credible and violence-free.
I believe that this is essential to ensure that Nigeria remains politically stable and continues on a steady path to the fulfillment of our peoples' collective vision of a strong, united and prosperous nation.
I assure Muslims and other Nigerians that this administration will continue to be guided by the ideals of fairness, equity and justice for all in its leadership of the country.
Under my watch as President, no Nigerian will ever be discriminated against on the basis of religion, ethnicity or social standing.
Further, I reaffirm my personal commitment to working diligently and tirelessly to ensure the successful implementation of Federal Government's agenda for national transformation.
To this end, I urge Muslims and all other Nigerians to support the continuation of this administration's efforts to build a better nation. GEJ
08 January 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:
My dear friends on Facebook,
I have said it before and I will continue to say and live by the fact that my ambition, and indeed the ambition of anybody, is not worth the blood of any Nigerian. Therefore, I urge all Nigerians to look forward in hope as we fulfill the dreams of our founding fathers to "build a nation where peace and Justice reign".
In that regard, we must make the election of February 14th, 2015, a contest amongst brothers rather than a struggle between foes.
In my political life, I have never been driven by the love of power. Rather, I have gotten to where I am today by the power of love which is the power that fueled the unity that saw Nigeria become the largest economy in Africa and defeat the Ebola Virus Disease.
Today, as I open up my campaign in the cosmopolitan city of Lagos, which is a melting pot for all Nigerians, I invite both the young and the old, men and women, students, market women, transporters, activists and indeed all Nigerians, to come and join me today at the Tafawa Balewa Square, Lagos.
I will not dictate to you. I will listen to you. It will not be a monologue. I will dialogue with you. My brothers and sisters, come and join me so we can chart our forward movement together. #ForwardNigeria. GEJ.

16 January 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:
Yesterday, I visited Maiduguri to meet with members of the armed forces serving there as well as the civilian population of the city. These great men and women are Nigeria's heroes. They are fighting to defend our nation from terrorists and other threats and we must do all within our powers to show appreciation for their services to Nigeria in tangible ways. May God bless the men and women of our armed forces, may God bless our efforts to return normalcy to Maiduguri and other towns affected by the insurgency and may God bless Nigeria. GEJ

18 January 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:
A silent revolution is taking place in Lagos. Everyday, thousands of Lagosians are escaping the hustle and bustle of Lagos traffic by traversing the mainland in the new air condition Diesel Multiple Unit trains. These trains were introduced by my administration as a fore taste of our plan to develop an inter and intra city high speed train network for Lagos. The Federal Government has already signed a $1.5 Billion contract for the construction of the Lagos-Ibadan Express Train. This service, when complete, will make it possible to live in Ibadan and work in Lagos. This is progressing simultaneously with the $12 Billion Lagos-Calabar coastal rail project. This project is 1,402 kilometers long and will link Lagos to Calabar with stops at cities along the route. We have good plans for Lagos, plans that will ensure that Lagos continues to be the Center of Excellence and a pride to Nigeria. GEJ.

20 January 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:
Education is the only foundation that can ensure the consistent growth of a nation. I have always believed that a nation will not become great by the minerals under her ground. Such will only come by developing the human resources of the country.
When I came on board in 2010, Jigawa, Katsina, Gombe, Nasarawa, Kogi, Ebonyi, Bayelsa, Ekiti, Taraba, Yobe, Kebbi and Zamfara had NO Federal University. During my 2011 presidential campaigns, I promised to establish at least one university in these states.
This is the year 2015 and I have kept my word. Each of those states now has a Federal University. In addition, this administration has built 125 Almajiri schools to cater for our valued children who were outside the formal education system.
Experts have said that where education increases fatalities reduces and it is no surprise to the Federal Government that our infant and maternal mortality rates have dropped considerably as our investments in education has increased.
We will not stop there. Having substantially tackled access to education, our on-going efforts to improve quality will be intensified. Education is key to our advancement. And we will do this only with your help and cooperation. GEJ

21 January 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:
My dear friends on Facebook,
In the following days and weeks, I would be reporting back to you on what I have done with the mandate you gave me four years ago.
In many ways, I see you as a special constituency of mine because of the love and support you have shown me on this page since I came on Facebook on the 28th of June 2010.
At that time, the Average Life Expectancy in Nigeria was 47 years. Five years down the line, working together, we have succeeded in increasing Nigeria's Average Life Expectancy to 54 years as at today and climbing.
And the government I head will not rest on its oars in improving all our health indices to make sure that Nigerians not only live longer lives, but that we live better quality lives.
And unity is our tool in this regard. The type of unity with which Nigeria defeated the Ebola Virus Disease will be harnessed for use in tackling the challenges in our health sector. Already, we are equipping and upgrading facilities in our teaching hospitals and many are carrying out surgeries they never could, because of equipment.
Only last year, the United Nations certified Nigeria Guinea Worm free. I am reliably informed that not before long, we will also be certified free of the Wild Polio Virus.
This is progress. This is Transformation. This is #ForwardNigeria. GEJ
23 January 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:
When I came into office as President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria on the 6th of May 2010, I met a moribund railway system and I vowed to myself that this vital infrastructure will be revived as it offered the most inexpensive mode of transportation for our people.
Today, four years later, I am pleased to report to you that our railways are back on track.
Our people can now take the Lagos-Kano service for only 1,930 Naira and the Port Harcourt-Enugu service for only 300 Naira.
I was pleased to read a comment on my page from Oraye St. Franklyn, who took a ride on the Port Harcourt-Enugu service of the Nigerian Railway Corporation. He expressed his delight as a parent that his children had entered a train in Nigeria for the first time in their lives.
And we are not stopping here. This administration just completed the tracks for the Abuja-Kaduna Standard Gauge Railway. Plans have reached an advanced stage for a new rail line from Lagos to Calabar and another between Ibadan and Lagos.
Our plan, which we intend to bring to fruition with your support, is to link every commercial and administrative capital in Nigeria by rail thereby bringing our people closer. We must continue to strengthen the bond of our union. GEJ.

25 January 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:
I keep an eye on the annual Global Hunger Index of the International Food Policy Research Institute to know how Nigeria is faring in the struggle to end poverty. For the first times since the GHI has been published, Nigeria has been making steady progress, from a Hunger Index of 16.3 in 2005 to 15 in 2013 to 14.7 last year. As President, my goal is to work hard so that no citizen is hungry. We are making progress in eliminating hunger. The report from GHI corroborates our own records which show that our food import bill has reduced from 1.1 Trillion Naira in 2009 to 634 Billion Naira in 2014 and falling. By cutting out the middle men and empowering 14 million Nigerian farmers (of which 2 million are women) with fertilizers directly, we are not only reducing hunger in our nation, we are also reducing our dependence on foreign nations for our food security while at the same time creating wealth at the grass roots of Nigeria. This is only the beginning. I am confident that Nigeria will in the not too distant future be self-sufficient in food production and become a net exporter of food. GEJ.

27 January 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:
With pride, I am able to again affirm, I eat rice grown in Nigeria. It is a matter of honour that more and more of the rice eaten in Nigeria now originates from Nigeria. Major restaurants and hotel chains report to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture that they cannot meet the demand for locally grown rice, a report that corroborates our expectations that Nigeria will become self-sufficient in rice production in no distant time, should we maintain the on-going momentum of our Agricultural Transformation Agenda. I am proud of what the Nigerian farmer has achieved and the sky is the limit if we stay the course. My dear friends, by God's grace, we will stay the course. GEJ.
28 January 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:
My dear friends on Facebook,
As I have said on numerous occasions, any nation that cannot feed itself is not fully independent. It is in this regard that I made it a top priority of this administration to work towards achieving self-sufficiency in food production.
To this end, we made quality appointments in the agricultural sector. We also provided a most ambitious 200 Billion Naira Commercial Agriculture Credit Scheme tailored specifically for the sector's 14 million farmers (of which 2 million are women).
The end result of these reforms are that Nigeria's food import bill which used to be 1.1 Trillion per annum in 2009 is now 634 billion Naira as at 2014. I am confident that this figure will reduce further in 2015, especially as Nigeria has almost reached self-sufficiency in rice and sugar production.
We are growing agricultural entrepreneurs through NAGROPRENEURS. We are encouraging the growth of younger farmers by taking the message to primary and secondary schools through our Agric Transformation Agenda. Our vision is to ensure that Agriculture is practiced as a business, not the way it has been done in the past. I am looking forward to generations of millionaires and billionaires in our country.
This is forward movement. It is veritable proof that the Transformation Agenda is a present continuous reality. GEJ.
30 January 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:
In 2011, when I became President by the grace of God and the votes of Nigerians, I promised the Southeastern region of Nigeria that I would ensure that my administration gives them an international airport.
This promise was fulfilled to the glory of God and the benefit of humanity on the 24th of August 2013 when an Ethiopian Airlines flight made the first international commercial flight landing at the Akanu Ibiam International Airport Enugu.
Since that day, international flights have been regular from that airport and God willing, this will continue in perpetuity.
No longer will the people of the Southeast have to spend upwards of 50,000 Naira on connecting flights to Port Harcourt, Lagos, Abuja, or Kano before connecting internationally. We are working hard to encourage more airlines to originate their international route because of the high volume of traffic.
This administration did not stop there. Knowing that the people of the Southeast were commercially inclined, we are also upgrading the Sam Mbakwe airport Owerri, which has been designated an International Cargo Airport.
Inclusivity is the watch word of this administration and no zone will be left behind on our journey of transformation. GEJ
