02 February 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:

Global best practices over the past decades have proven that corruption is best tackled when you eliminate the opportunities for graft.

You do this, through building and strengthening accountability institutions constitutionally empowered to do this. We re-organized the EFCC and ICPC and appointed leaders of credibility to lead them. We also ensured that no one interfered with their work and we gave them the tools they needed to do their work.

We are making progress, but more work still needs to be done.

The agricultural sector had become notorious for the fraud in the fertilizer regime of that sector. Over the years, this system had been used to siphon billions of Naira that was meant to procure vitally needed fertilizer to ensure that Nigeria attains National Food Security.

When this administration came into being, we instituted reforms and introduced an e-wallet system by which farmers were registered and their mobile phones were used to distribute fertilizers and seeds directly from source to end user thereby cutting out the middle man.

The result has been that our fertilizer bill has dramatically reduced and the quality of the product has gone up as middle men no longer have access to adulterate the product.

Our food import bill has thus reduced from 1.1 Trillion Naira in 2009 to 634 billion Naira and still reducing today.

Also, through the technology of the Intergrated Personnel and Payroll Information System (IPPIS), the Federal Government has weeded out over 50,000 ghost workers from the Federal Civil Service saving 160 billion Naira annually through the process.

As I speak, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, is currently prosecuting offenders who are suspected of perpetrating this fraud.

Finally, when I signed the Freedom of Information Law, FOI, it had the effect of lifting the veil on government. Nigerians now know how much I spend as well as how much is spent by other Ministries, Departments and Agencies of the Federal Government and can ask questions which foster transparency.

Efforts are ongoing to persuade some states who have resisted the domestication of this law to bow to reason and accept this law in practice and in theory.

It is for these reasons and others that Nigeria, under my watch, continues to make steady progress in the anti-corruption war and with your renewed mandate, we will never relent. GEJ.

03 February 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:

When in 2012 this administration initiated a new National Automobile Policy, we set a target to make Nigeria a regional hub for the automobile industry in West Africa.

In 2014, our plans bore fruit as global car manufacturers, Nissan, Hyundai and Kia began partially manufacturing and wholly assembling cars in Nigeria for sale in Nigeria and in neighbouring nations.

A local manufacturer, Innoson, also began manufacturing cars in Nigeria and the government is today patronizing that brand at the Presidency and for Ministries, Departments and Agencies.

This is progress that must be supported and applauded by all. By God's grace, our automobile industry will continue to improve till we are self-sufficient in that sector. GEJ

04 February 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:

I have always been an advocate for women empowerment which is why I am proud of the record of the efforts our administration has made. We have appointed more female ministers than any other administration in the history of Nigeria.

I also promoted gender equality by ordering the Nigerian Defence Academy to begin accepting female cadets and I have never regretted that decision as our women folk have gone on to win laurels in Nigeria and abroad.

We are all products of womanhood. Never will our women be relegated in our national life. They must ever be visible and appreciated. When you empower women, you empower the family.

Nowhere has this been more prevalent than in the agricultural sector were 2 million farmers are contributing their quota to making Nigeria meet her national food security targets.

God bless Nigeria and may God bless our mothers. GEJ

05 February 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:

Before we came into office, elections in Nigeria could not be said to be credible. Knowing that political stability was tied to the inviolability of the electoral process, I made a commitment to break from the past and use the powers of the Presidency to promote the independence of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC by appointing persons universally acknowledged for the competency and capacity to run the commission.

The result has been that elections in Nigeria under my watch have been credible and transparent as has been attested to by local and international observers.

From Anambra to Edo to Ondo to Ekiti to Osun to Niger it has been a season of one man one vote, one woman one vote and one youth one vote.

In Nigeria, power flows from the ballot and we have all achieved this together. I therefore call on all Nigerians to collect their Permanent Voter Card and head to the polls with the full awareness that under a Jonathan presidency, votes count and will be counted. GEJ

06 February 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:

On the 15th of January, 2014, the World Health Organization, WHO, officially certified Nigeria Guinea Worm Free. What this means is that throughout the length and breadth of Nigeria, there are no more Guinea Worm infections.

This feat, of which every Nigerian should be proud, was achieved as a result of planning and implementation of policies to provide potable water to Nigerians so that none of our brothers and sisters has to depend on unsafe water which is the chief cause of Guinea Worm infection.

In Makurdi, this administration in conjunction with the Benue state government completed the Greater Makurdi Water Supply Scheme Project, supplying potable water to one million people.

In Taraba state, we have the Kashimbila Dam which is set to provide water to 400,000 people as well as powering up homes with 40 megawatts of electricity.

In Ondo state, this administration completed the Erusu/Arigidi dam which is providing water to hundreds of thousands of our citizens in the state even as I commissioned the third and fourth phases of the Abuja Water Treatment Plant which now provides water to over half a million residents of the Federal Capital Territory.

We are also on the cusp of completing or expanding other dams and water projects nationwide to provide potable water to millions of Nigerians including the Gurara dam and the Galma Multi-purpose dam.

Defeating Guinea Worm is only a beginning. We shall continue to transform the lives of our people through the provision of water because water is life and my administration is committed to providing every Nigerian with the infrastructure that ensures an abundant life. GEJ.

08 February 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:

The last time I gave an update on the revolution in our railway sector, I promised you that this administration will continue to expand the revolution until all our political and commercial sectors are interconnected. Since I gave that update, we have commissioned additional routes including the Makurdi-Port Harcourt, Gombe-Kafanchan-Port Harcourt and Gombe-Kafanchan-Kaduna routes. My promise to Nigerians on the rail sector is being fulfilled in real time. I assure all Nigerians that this administration is committed to ensuring that our railways come to a city near you. GEJ.

09 February 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:

My dear friends on Facebook, I want to remind us all that we have no other country other than Nigeria and as we approach the election, it is wise that we speak good and peaceable words over Nigeria because we will have to eat our words, so let us make them sweet rather than bitter. We must see the coming polls as a contest amongst brothers and sisters from the womb of one Nigeria. We must avoid threats and desperation as we make our case to the electorate. Head or tale, Nigeria wins. Therefore, I urge all Nigerians to join me in saying it is well with Nigeria and by the special grace of God, it shall continue to be well with our great country Nigeria. GEJ.

12 February 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:

All around Nigeria, this administration has focused attention on the reconstruction, rehabilitation or repair of our national road network.

Of the 35,000 kilometers of federal roads nationwide, we have constructed, rehabilitated or repaired 25,000 kilometers, making it easier to move across Nigeria thereby deepening the integration of our people.

Some of the roads were progress has been made include Benin-Ore, Vom-Manchok, Kano-Maiduguri, Lokoja-Abuja, Lokoja-Okene-Benin and Onitsha-Owerri to mention but a few.

This is even as the Loko-Oweto Bridge across the River Benue has almost reached completion stage while work on the 2nd Niger Bridge is making progress. When completed these bridges will shorten the journey of those traveling between North and South with attendant reduction in travel costs.

This administration believes in the unity of this great nation which is why we continue to invest in infrastructure such as roads, railways, airports and river dredging, to break down walls and make it possible for our people to make connections that foster togetherness, cooperation and peaceful coexistence. GEJ.

13 February 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:

Today marks the 39th anniversary of the death of that great Nigerian hero, Murtala Mohammed, who gave his life for this great nation. In his lifetime he espoused the belief that Nigeria had come of age and is ready to play her rightful role as the leader of the Black Race and a hub for progressive government on the African continent. Thankfully, Nigeria has immortalized Murtala's legacy in books and monuments and will continue to do so such that our youth can learn from his life of purpose and commitment to higher ideals. May his soul continue to rest in peace and may God continue to comfort his family as a grateful nation remembers his sacrifice. GEJ

15 February 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:

It was a joy to spend Valentine's Day with the widows and families of our service men who died prosecuting the war on terror. A grateful nation will never forget their sacrifice even as we continue to ensure that the families they left behind receive the best Nigeria can offer. GEJ

16 February 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:

My dear friends on Facebook, I want to seize this opportunity to thank you and other Nigerians for your continued support of our armed forces as they prosecute the war on terror. This war has now reached a critical stage as we are partnering with our neighbors in West Africa and in Africa as a whole to prosecute the anti terror campaign. I therefore ask for the cooperation of all Nigerians because, just as we learned with the Ebola Virus Disease, we will not defeat terror unless we defeat it together! Let us pray for the gallant men and women of our armed forces and support them by providing information and by refraining from any action that will undermine their efforts and jeopardize their lives. We sleep on our beds at night because they sleep in the open. We must honour the memory of our fallen soldiers by ennobling their sacrifice with our thoughts, words and actions. Nigeria is our only country and we are her only people. We must thus ensure that we put her first in everything we do at these critical times by subjugating all other interests to hers. GEJ.

17 February 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:

When this administration came into being on May 29th, 2011, Nigeria was a cement importing nation. However, with a determined implementation of the Backward Integration policy on cement, we are today a net exporter of the product as well as its largest producer on the African continent.

That was only a beginning. We are committed to re-enacting that feat with other products including rice, fertilizer and cassava for which we have since grown to be the world's largest producer.

Steadily, we are increasing the capacity of the agricultural and real sectors through creative stimulus programmes and thoughtful execution of infrastructure projects that are connecting sources of raw materials to manufacturing zones and then to the markets.

By successfully privatizing our power generation and distribution infrastructure, we have attracted the type of funds and personnel that will raise the capacity of the power sector to power up our industries and mechanized farms.

Under my watch, I assure the local and international business community that the Federal Government places a high premium on promoting economic growth. We will continue to implement policies on as many products as Nigeria has a comparative advantage so that we provide jobs and opportunities for all our peoples. This we will do with the kind support of all Nigerians. GEJ.

18 February 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:

This administration has revived train routes all over Nigeria to provide an inexpensive alternative to road and air travels.

Have you traveled by trains? How was the journey? Let me know your experiences by posting your comments and pictures under this update so I can have your feedback even as we plan for more work in this sector.

May God bless you and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. GEJ.

19 February 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:

Various international agencies including the World Bank and African Development Bank have noted that poverty in Nigeria is declining. This is good news that challenges us to do more.

We have put in place several policies to ensure that the poorest Nigerians are equipped with the means to overcome poverty.

Through the Millennium Development Initiative, almost a hundred thousand families nationwide are receiving Social Security benefits from this administration to the tune of a lump sum payment of 100,000 Naira and monthly stipends of 5,000 Naira.

Empowering citizens to create jobs is however the fastest and most effective way to fight poverty and this administration has made gains in this regard.

Through initiatives like the Youths with Innovation in Nigeria (YouWIN), the Youth Entrepreneurship Strategy (YES) and the Public Works Women and Youth Empowerment Programme of the SURE-P, we have been able to help our youths and women create over a hundred thousand jobs.

Surely and steadily this administration is working with the Nigerian people to put in place policies and infrastructure to empower all Nigerians to lift ourselves out of poverty and the world is noticing which is why Nigeria has emerged as the Number One destination for Foreign Direct Investment in Africa. GEJ.

19 February 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:

This administration is committed to building the capacity of our armed forces to enable them defend the territorial integrity of Nigeria. In furtherance of this goal, I commissioned four ships recently acquired for the Nigerian Navy in Lagos today. These ships will help the Navy further secure our territorial waters, check incidences of piracy and protect the economic interest of Nigeria by fighting oil theft as well as provide security for maritime activities within our continental shelf. We will continue to ensure that the military are not just well equipped but that the welfare of our service personnel are taken care of in appreciation of their sacrifices for our nation. Onward Together! GEJ.

19 February 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:

20 February 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:

Today in Ogun state, I commissioned the 750 Megawatt Olorunsogo Phase 2 Power Plant to the glory of God and the benefit of Nigerians. This project of the National Integrated Power Project, NIPP, will provide additional electricity to power the ongoing Transformation of Nigeria from the largest economy in Africa to a top 20 global economy. It is the goal of this administration to ensure that we work with all Nigerians to provide the infrastructure our nation needs to fulfill her remarkably great potential.

I appreciate the warm reception the people and leaders of Ogun State accorded me and my entourage during the visit. May God bless Nigeria. GEJ.

22 February 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:

Yesterday, I met with Islamic clerics and scholars from the Southwest. It was a most rewarding meeting in that I increased in knowledge from that interaction. The peaceful coexistence of Muslims and Christians in the Southwest is an example to the whole nation and the world at large. I thank the clerics and scholars once again for honoring me with their presence and may God bless Nigeria. GEJ.

23 February 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:

Over the weekend, I visited his Royal Highness, the Alaafin of Oyo, Oba Lamidi Olayiwola Adeyemi III. I also visited the Soun of Ogbomoso, Oba Oladunni Oyewumi Ajagungbade III. At both occasions, I was overwhelmed by the reception given to my entourage and I by the Obas and the people of both Oyo and Ogbomosho. The outpouring of love and support I encountered at both cities strengthened my belief in the unity of this great nation, Nigeria. I thank their Royal Majesties and my dear people of Oyo and Ogbomosho for receiving me so graciously. May God bless Nigeria. GEJ.

25 February 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:

Today, along with my brother ex-Heads of State, I visited Sokoto state to celebrate former President Shehu Usman Aliyu Shagari as he marked his 90th birthday. President Shagari is a living legend of democracy and Nigeria will ever appreciate him for his services to the nation as a democratically elected leader and as a Statesman who guided his successors with the sagacity acquired from his years of leadership. Happy 90th Birthday sir. May God bless you and may God bless the Federal Republic of Nigeria. GEJ.

26 February 2015 Update from President Goodluck Jonathan Facebook Wall:

Today, I visited the Northeastern part of our Country. I was with our soldiers and interacted with the officers and men of our gallant armed forces. I am very proud of their patriotism and the valour they have demonstrated as they fight to protect our citizens and our territorial integrity. The sight of Nigerian citizens returning to towns once occupied by insurgents was most fulfilling. May God continue to bless Nigeria. GEJ
