An agreement to formalize collaboration in the area of training and capacity-building for Customs Officers has been signed between the World Customs Organization and the Nigeria Customs Service.
At the signing ceremony which was held recently at the World Customs Organisation Headquarters, Brussels, the Secretary-General, Kunio Mikuriya expressed the gratitude of the World Body for providing a training centre for training of customs personnel in the West and Central African sub-region.
In his remarks, the Comptroller-General of Customs, and the leader of the Nigeria Customs Service delegation to the Council Meeting, Dikko Inde Abdullahi re-stated the commitment of Nigeria to accord top priority to capacity building in its on-going modernization programme.
The Agreement commits the Nigeria Customs Service to provide classrooms, training aids, meeting rooms, residential and other service facilities for use by the World Customs Organisation.
The West and Central African Region is made of 23 Customs Administrations.
Situated in Gwagwalada, in the Federal Capital Territory, the new Regional Training Centre will be located within the premises of the Customs Command and Staff College, which will provide middle Cadre Management Development for the Nigeria Customs Service. It is expected to be commissioned before the end of the year.
