Governing Council of the University of Ibadan (UI) has approved the appointment of Professor Idowu Olayinka as the new Vice Chancellor of the institution.

He will take over from the outgoing VC, Prof Isaac Adewole, whose tenure expires on 30th November, 2015.

Announcing the new appointment, the Pro-Chancellor of the university, Dr. Umar Mustapha, said the choice of Olayinka was unanimous after three candidates were recommended by the selection committee from the six candidates that were shortlisted for the position.

Prof. Olayinka was born on 16th February, 1958.

He attended the prestigious University of Ibadan in 1977 and completed his B.Sc (Geology) with Second Class Honours (Upper Division) in 1981, becoming the best graduating student in his class.
