Finnair has flown the world's longest commercial flight to date using biofuel. A Finnair Airbus plane was refueled in Amsterdam for a flight back to Helsinki last night by the Dutch SKY-energy biofuel company.
Half of the fuel used by the plane was recycled cooking oil. The plane's crew said that performance was at the same level as with ordinary petroleum-based aviation fuel.
Both the plane's engines were run on the biofuel mix for the first time. Finnair intends to operate four more such flights in the coming weeks.
