Blues captain, John Terry, has warned the Chelsea hierarchy that Andre Villas-Boas must be allowed to make his own decisions if he is going to be successful at Stamford Bridge.
In what appeared to be a coded message to owner Roman Abramovich and the Chelsea board, captain Terry has called for his new boss to be given 100 per cent backing as he prepares for the new season.
"Hopefully he can bring us a lot of trophies because he's a fantastic manager. He's learned from the best and he wants to be that.
"I've spoken to people at the club and they said as soon as they sat down and spoke with him they realised he was the right man for the job
"So what we need now is stability. I stressed it a couple of years ago and we thought we had it when Carlo came in. Hopefully we have it now," Terry said.
