Prison break in Port Harcourt.
Notorious kidnappers imprisoned in the Port Harcourt maximum security prison staged a daring early morning jailbreak today leading to the disappearance of five prisoners.
Prisoner warders in the prison were over powered when the prisoners used iron bars broken from their bed to break down prison walls.
The Rivers state commissioner of police, Abba Suleiman, told SaharaReporters that his men were contacted by the deputy comptroller of prisons at about 10:00 am Nigerian time after the prisoners staged an rebellion that led to the disappearance of five prisoners.
Mr. Suleiman stated that his men intervened swiftly to put down the revolt leading to the arrest of a convicted kidnapper, Egbe Gboh and Anthony Akanimo who awaiting trial for kidnapping. Both inmates were attempting to climb over the prison fence towards the Abuja and Bundu waterfront areas. 23 other prisoners have been arrested to partaking in the uprising.
