It is surprising that Edo state could go on strike, in-spite of Governor Adams Oshiomole experience as Labour leader.
The Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC) and the Trade Union Congress (TUC), on Monday, suspended the indefinite strike which civil servants in the state embarked upon to press home their demands for full implementation of the minimum wage across all categories of public sector workers and resolution of some other industrial relations issues.
The strike, which entered its sixth day on Monday, was suspended at the end of an emergency joint executive meeting of the NLC, TUC and JNC in Benin City, the state capital.
A statement jointly signed by the state NLC chairman, Comrade Emma Ademokun, state TUC chairman, Comrade Joe Aligbe and state JNC chairman, Comrade Shaka Otoide, said the organised labour in the state resolved to suspend the strike based, among others, on "the appeal by well-meaning people of Edo State to workers."
The labour leaders also said the decision to suspend the strike followed the interaction between the organised labour and the government, where the government reiterated its commitment to implement the minimum wage for teachers, non-teaching staff of Post-Primary Education Board, State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), judiciary staff and staff of the Ministry of Justice, among others.
