AN Ilorin-based legal practitioner, Mr. Bayo Adelodun, has described the suspension of President of Court of Appeal, Justice Ayo Salami, by the National Judicial Council (NJC) as shocking and unprecedented in the history of the nation's judiciary.
Adelodun, however, said he was yet to get the details of the suspension and retirement notice, warning that the legal skirmishes would turn messier if not cleverly handled.
He said the NJC is not a legal entity vested with the power to remove or retire the judiciary official of Salami's status.
The NJC, he noted, could only recommend the removal of the President of the Court of Appeal to the nation's President.
Adelodun, who queried NJC's wisdom in taking the steps it took in the extant case, despite its pendency before the court of competent jurisdiction, added that lawyers in charge of the matter would know the right type of motions to move to break the logjam.
He noted: "If it is true that the NJC is planning to sack him, it is not known to any law of the land.
"Besides, since the matter is in court, we have not seen the end of it. The law is very clear on it. The lawyers know the kind of motions to move in this respect.
"What the NJC can do is to recommend his removal or retirement to the President of the nation.
"I am very worried that it has taken this turn. It will blow us all no-good wind. I least expected that the NJC would take this step," he stated.
