The U.S. Embassy in Abuja is seeking to employ a suitable and qualified candidate for the position of Mechanical Engineer in the Facilities Maintenance Section.

Position: Mechanical Engineer FSN - 10
Ref: A52023
Location: Abuja – Facilities Maintenance

WORK HOURS: Full-time; 40 hours/week

SALARY:
OR – Ordinarily Resident–N 4,069,778.00 p.a. (Starting basic salary)
Position Grade: FSN-10
In addition to the basic salary, all allowances will be paid in accordance with the Mission Local Compensation Plan.

NOR - Not Ordinarily Resident - AEFM - US$56,323.00, EFM - US$48,338 Starting Salary p.a.
Position Grade: FP-05

BASIC FUNCTION OF THE POSITION:
•   Under the supervision of the Facilities Manager (FM), the incumbent serves as the senior mechanical engineer, providing professional engineering services through planning, design, estimating and technical review for construction/renovation projects for the US Embassy in Abuja.
•   He/she will be responsible for the preparations of specifications, drawings, list of materials and construction cost estimates. Incumbent supervises, directs, plans and coordinates the work, actions and performance of a team of technical professionals and acts as the lead technical authority to the FM and Post Management for mechanical engineering related services.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
NOTE: All applicants MUST address each selection criterion detailed below with specific and comprehensive information supporting each criterion or the application will not be considered.
1. Bachelor's Degree or equivalent post-degree qualification in Mechanical Engineering.
2. Three (3) years of progressive experience as a Mechanical Engineer, including two (2) years of supervision, with at least two (2) years of progressively responsible experience in maintenance operations.
3. Thorough knowledge of construction, mechanical fire and life safety standards practices and HVAC integrated systems.
4. Level IV (Fluent) Speaking/Writing in English is required. Level II (Limited Knowledge) Speaking/Writing in any local language is required.
5. Ability to prepare plans, specifications, technical drawings, and interpret plans and specifications prepared by others.

SELECTION PROCESS:
When equally qualified, Eligible Family Members and U.S. Veterans will be given preference. Therefore it is essential that the candidate address the required qualifications above in the application.

ADDITIONAL SELECTION CRITERIA:
1. Management will consider nepotism/conflict of interest, budget, and residency status in determining successful candidacy.
2. Current employees serving a probationary period are not eligible to apply.
3. Currently employed U.S. Citizen EFMs who hold a FMA appointment are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of the employment.
4. Currently employed NORs hired under a Personnel Services Agreement (PSA) are ineligible to apply for advertised positions within the first 90 calendar days of their employment, unless currently hired into a position with a When Actually Employed (WAE) work schedule.
5. Current employees who are qualified will be given preference.
6. Only successful applicants who meet the minimum requirements will be notified.
