Subscription list can be created with Google Feedburner. It is free. Create an account there and use your website RSS feed. In the admin panel, you will see option to create "subscription link". Create it, get the code and put in your website, where you want it to appear. You can customize to suite your need. Let me know if you need further help.
For friend inviter, I have not really got the time to work it out as a mod on SMF. Once done, it will be made available. But if you have already done any invite, you can install a mod that will redirect users after registration to the inviter page.
