Amazon.com is planning to launch a Netflix-like paid subscription service for e-books, according to The Wall Street Journal. This could possibly be a move to strengthen the challenge its forthcoming tablet would pose to the iPad family. Amazon's tablet -- or perhaps two tablets -- is widely expected late this summer. Whether the rumored e-book rental service will help Amazon's tablet challenge the iPad is open to question. "That will depend on how well Amazon's tablet can function as an e-reader," Charles King, principal at Pund-IT.
