Heartland FC won Nigeria's 2011 Federation Cup, after beating Enyimba 1-0 in the final played in Lagos on Sunday.
The goal was scored in the 40th minute by the team captain, Chinedu Efugh.
The joy of the players and officials of the club knew no bound as an 18 year jinx was broken. The team last won any title in 1993 which was the league.
The last time the club won the FA Cup was in 1988 after defeating defunct Flash Flamingoes of Benin 3-0 at the Lekan Salami Stadium, Ibadan.
The victory has qualified Heartland, which is based in South-eastern city of Owerri, for next year's CAF Confederation Cup.
Enyimba, two-time winner of the CAF Champions League and a contender for the continent's prestigious club competition this year, had been the favourite to lift its third Federation Cup trophy, which until 2009 was known as the FA Cup.
Congratulation to Heartland FC of Owerri!
