Osun State Commissioner for Tourism Development, Honourable Ayedun Sikiru has described civil service as a major panacea in fast-tracking government developmental projects.
He said without the cooperation of the civil servants, it may be very difficult for the government to actualize its desired programmes to better the lots of the people.
Ayedun said this while addressing the members of staff of the ministry at the maiden meeting of the ministry, organized at the instance of the new commissioner, as a familiarization meeting.
The commissioner, while narrating the challenges before the ministry, urged the workers to be more dedicated and hardworking, to achieve the targeted income from the state tourist sites.
He stressed that the state governor, Mr. Rauf Aregbesola is committed to the development of the tourism sites through infrastructural development, capacity building and human resources development.
According to him, tourism is a major sector eyed by the state government to source for Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) and solicited for their maximum support in the government's new reform of the sector.
Speaking on the programmes of the ministry, he advised all the workers from the office assistant to the rank of the permanent sectary, to be conversant with the governor Aregbesola's six-point cardinal agenda to understand the government policy direction.
Ayedun therefore enjoined the workers to see themselves as the major stakeholders in the state government's developmental projects, saying the lapses and success of the ministry depends on the workers and will be rewarded accordingly.
He pledged government's commitment to adequate remuneration for the workers and other welfare packages to motivate them.
Ayedun maintained that he would want the ministry to be a leading example among other ministries, in terms of discipline, punctuality, productivity and hard work.
Responding, the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Tourism Development, Mr. Folorunsho Alao drew the attention of the commissioner to the various challenges facing the workers of the ministry, which include dilapidated facilities and inadequate materials among others.
He assured the commissioner of maximum cooperation of all the members of staff of the ministry.
