SUPER EAGLES handler, Samson Siasia, has made it clear that the team was more interested in picking up the automatic sole ticket to participate in next year's Africa Cup of Nations to be co-hosted by Equatorial Guinea and Gabon.
Siasia was reacting to suggestions that the game against Ghana next Tuesday October 11. in London was as important, considering the rivalry between the two West African giants. More so, not forgetting that the Black Stars last defeated the Eagles, then tutored by Amodu Shaibu in an international friendly encounter, also, in London.
He was of the opinion that the priority for now, remains the Nations Cup ticket. He agreed that the game against Ghana was important, but that it could not measured in significance to the game against the SyliNationale of Guinea. The Bayelsa-born tactician is of the opinion that the importance of the match to the team and Nigerians as a whole, could not be overemphasized. He said though the talk of revenge was in the air, he and the team could not be too bothered about such talks, but would rather focus on delivering the Nations Cup ticket to Africa s elite football competition.
The former Eagles forward believes the team would take each game as they come and would not fail to show respect for any team they play against. He played down the game against Ghana. Choosing rather, to be more concerned about the cracker at the new National Stadium in Abuj a on Saturday. This is coming on the heels of assertion made by Guinea football legend, Aboubakar Titi Camara, that the Eagles would fall in Abuja, in the final round of the qualifiers come October 8 by 2pm local time.
Guinea currently lead the group with three points ahead ofNigeria and would qualify for the Nations cup automatically if they avoid
defeat in Abuja. Nigeria on the hand, ned an outright win to beat Guinea to the first position and potentially qualify as the Group B best
team in the qualifying series.
