Job Title: Director, Partnerships and Capacity Building
Ref: DDG-R4D/DPCB/10/11
Duty Station: IITA Ibadan, Nigeria
Organisation: International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA)

Description:
The Director will be responsible for the management of strategic partnerships, capacity building for IITA staff and for partners, and resource mobilization. The Director will work directly under the management of the Director General of IITA and collaborate with the management of the R4D Directorate.

Position/Responsibilities:
The primary responsibilities of the Director will include:
•   Strategic partnership management for effective collaboration between research and development partners, including the public and private sectors.
•   Leadership of resource mobilization efforts, such as the development of responses to specific requests for proposals for bilateral donors and investment by multilateral funding agencies, i.e., IFAD, World Bank, AfDB, and others.
•   Coordination with country bilateral projects.
•   Supervision of the Contracts and Grant Office.
•   Management of internal IITA and external capacity building efforts with the NARS, Universities, private sector, and others.
•   External liaison with other organizations as needed.
•   Represent IITA and communicate on R4D as needed.

Educational Qualifications: The candidate should have a Masters or PhD in a relevant field.

Core Competencies:
•   At least 8 years of experience in a relevant management area with increasing responsibilities
•   At least 8 years of experience in proposal development and resource mobilization with a demonstrated track record of success
•   At least 8 years of experience with developing training program and/or management of capacity building programs
•   Ability to work as a member of a multidisciplinary team in a cross-cultural environment
•   Excellent leadership, interpersonal, and team building skills
•   Knowledge of sub-Saharan Africa and good contacts with some of the key donors or partners of IITA is an advantage
•   Knowledge of French or Portuguese is also an advantage

General information: Initial appointment is for three years. IITA offers a competitive remuneration package paid in US dollars.
