To ensure the future survival of the local government system in the country, it has been advocated that the youths should be positively engaged, so that they would not be involved in the perpetration of all sorts of social vices.
Part of the recommendations was also for government to acknowledge the roles of youths in today's democratic governance.
This was the opinion of the caretaker committee chairman of Olorunda Local Government Council Area of Osun State, Honourable Abdulakeem Oladeinde Okunade (Samanja), during the inauguration of the Eni Olorunda and Olorunda Vocation Corps Scheme, at the council secretariat in Igbona, last Friday.
Okunade described the event as another landmark achievement.
According to the council boss, developmental activities can only be attracted to the local government through the well-being of every group in the different communities.
He therefore called upon all the youths to be of good conduct and ambassadors of the youths and their various communities.
The council boss disclosed to OSUN DEFENDER that Olorunda Local Government has also concluded plans to venture into other projects, such as farming, fish farming, and animal husbandry and the employment of community members as teachers in the various communities.
He revealed that the idea behind the employment of teachers in places like Oba-Ile, Ilie and Oba-Oke communities, was because those sent there refused to continue working there.
"In this stead, we decided to employ people from the communities, who were trained as teachers and we plan to establish farming projects", he stated.
He also disclosed that the venture would be financed from income generated from it.
Okunade charged the beneficiaries of the programme to brace-up for work as there was no room for laziness.
He further revealed that the scheme was divided into two parts, which included the employment of corps members and the vocational empowerment of beneficiaries.
The vocational training would be in fashion designing, hairdressing, carpentry, barbing and computer training and the training would span 6 months through one year.
The council's helmsman also called on the people to continually support his administration with prayers.
In his response, the Oloba of Oba-Oke, Oba Adams Iyiola Bakare, prayed for the success of the scheme and encouraged beneficiaries to go about their duties with zeal and dedication.
The vice-chairman of the council, Prince Ibikunle Moruf Adeleke in expressing delight at the successful inauguration of the programme, revealed that the beneficiaries were up to 200 youths, for each of the two groups.
He urged the beneficiaries to co-operate and see to the success of the programme and that they should not let the monetary part discourage them.
Meanwhile, Honourable Okunade disclosed that Olorunda Local Government, under his administration, would distribute grinding machines, cell phones, cutlasses, textbooks and motorcycles to the people in a couple of months.
