The ruling party in the state is the Progressives Peoples Alliance (PPA). The governor is Theodore Orji. He has not hidden his desire to have a second term in office. The opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), the ruling party at the centre, has not really shown seriousness to reclaim the state which it ruled from 1999 to 2007 and fought vigorously to win back through the tribunal.
