The National Chairman of the Alliance for Democracy (AD), Senator Mojisoluwa Akinfenwa in this interview said that government would need to re-evaluate the decision before subjecting Nigerians to the cruel necessity.
What is your view about the planned removal of the oil subsidy in the national expenditure of the federal government?
There is no doubt about it that the decision will cause untold hardship for Nigerians, both the rich and poor.
As we all know, petrol is a national commodity in every economy of the world that affects the rich and the poor.
In another view, there is a global economic crisis, as we have seen with the example of Greece. So, if the removal of the oil subsidy is what will bail Nigeria out of an economic plung, then Nigerians had better been prepared for the cruel necessity.
But it is important that the federal government re-assesses the situation so that it will not be that we are applying a wrong therapy for our ailment.
Again, I am confident that the President, Dr. Goodluck Jonathan will have scrutinized the matter well before coming to Nigerians to advocate the removal. Why did I say so? The President should know that he is putting his popularity on the line, and he will not be willing to do that if he is not confident that the action will make a hero of this generation.
