Indigenes of Oluponna in Ayedire Local Government Council Area of Osun State have been enjoined to contribute meaningfully to the growth of Osun State by developing their ancient town.
The Olupo of Oluponna, Oba Oyebanji Oyefeso Fadare II, who made the call at the 2011 Oluponna Day last Saturday, said community development is a joint project which should not be left to the government alone.
Oba Oyefeso maintained that Oluponna community has been known for self development with the aim of promoting the ancient town among other cities and towns in the state.
The traditional ruler called on indigenes of the community in home and diaspora to invest in the community, saying that they owe the town thousands of developmental projects.
Speaking at the event, the Caretaker Committee Chairman of the council area, Mr. Gbenga Ogunkanmi, enjoined the indigenes of the state to support the administration of Engineer Rauf Aregbesola.
Ogunkanmi said community development is a major reason for the establishment of local government, reiterating his commitment to promote Aregbesola's administration with developmental projects in all the communities in the council area.
He then called on the Oluponna youths to contribute their quota to the development of their fatherland, just as he charged them not to forget their history and origin.
His message: "Great youths of Oluponna; in your hands lie the future of this ancient town. Therefore, you must wake-up from your slumber and offer yourself to the development of this community.
You have the energy and agility to move this community forward. You must never be like the offsprings of bird, which have no reward for their parents, than to fly away. Community development is a team work.
"It is not a crime or abomination to travel out of one's hometown for ends means, but it becomes a wrongdoing, when you forget and abandon your town. No place like home, especially now that the state is transforming to greatness with the six-cardinal programmes of Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola.
In this wise, I am imploring all the indigenes of Oluponna and Ayedire at large, to come home"In his own message, the President, Oranmiyan Worldwide, Prince Felix Awofisayo, who was an invited guest at the ceremony, enjoined the state indigenes at home and abroad to contribute positively to the development of the state.
Awofisayo maintained that the confidence and hope reposed on Aregbesola's government would be adequately protected with the massive development that will take place in the state within a short period of time.
