A 33-year-old man, Adekunle Falowo, was arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrate Court, for allegedly defrauding a victim of N260,000.
According to the charge sheet read in the open court, the suspect, in company of others, believed to be currently at-large, conspired to obtain the stated sum of money from the victim under false pretence, contrary and punishable under section 516A(I) of the state criminal law.
It also alleged that the accused person collected the money from his victim, Alhaji Yekini Tafa, on the pretence that he would help him secure a contract to supply bread to orphanage homes in Osogbo.
The offence, according to the charge sheet, was contrary and punishable under section 419 of the state penal code.
He (suspect) was further alleged of stealing the stated cash from the victim, an offence contrary to section 383 and punishable under section 390(9) of the state criminal law.
However, the accused person pleaded not guilty to the three-count charges preferred against him.
Defence counsel, Mr. Sunday Atofarati, while applying for the bail of the accused person, urged the court to admit his client to bail in the most liberal terms.
He added that the suspect would not jump bail, if eventually granted, adding that he would provide credible surety.
Police prosecutor, Inspector Isiaka Ajadi did not oppose the bail application, agreeing that the court reserves the jurisdiction to grant bail.
Presiding Magistrate, Mr. Olusola Aluko, admitted the accused person to bail in the sum of N100,000 and two sureties in like sum.
He consequently adjourned the matter till December 20, 2011 for mention.
Similarly, another 33-year old suspect, Nasiru Subairu was arraigned for stealing six pieces of plastic chairs valued N6,000.
The plastic chairs, according to the charge sheet, belonged to one Alimot Oyewumi and therefore committed an offence that is contrary and punishable under section 390 of the criminal law.
Magistrate Olalekan Ijiyode, however, admitted the suspect to bail, after pleading not-guilty to the charge against him in the sum of N20,000 and one surety.
He then adjourned the matter till December 9, 2011 for mention.
