Two suspects, Emiola Oluseye, 31 and Omoniyi Sunday, 34, were last Friday arraigned before an Osogbo Magistrate's Court, on a three-count charge, bordering on felony, stealing and obtaining under false pretence
According to the charge sheet read in court, the accused persons, in company of others currently at-large, conspired to obtain 20,000 litres of diesel product valued at N2,860,000, from their victim, under false pretence and contrary and punishable under section 516 of the state criminal law..
It also alleged that the suspects issued a dud Zenith Bank cheque for the sum of N2,860,000 to the victim Mr. Najeem Teslem Arisekola, knowing well that no such amount was in their account.
The offences, according to the charge sheet, were contrary and punishable under section 419 of the dishonoured cheque offence laws of the federation.
The offences were allegedly committed on October 7, 2011, at Adegboye Filling Station in Ile-Ife.
However, the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the three-count charges leveled against them.
Defence counsel, Mr. Fawel George, while applying for bail of the accused persons, urged the court to admit his clients to bail in the most liberal terms.
He maintained that the offences were bailable and that the suspects would not jump bail, if eventually granted bail. He added that the accused persons would provide reliable sureties.
Police prosecutor, Sergeant Elisha Olusegun, did not oppose the bail application made by the defence counsel.
Presiding magistrate, Mr. Olalekan Ijiyode, however, admitted the suspects to bail in the sum of N500,000 each and two sureties in the like sum.
He added that the addresses of the sureties should be verified by the prosecutor.
He subsequently adjourned the matter till January 10, 2012 for mention.
