Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez has chosen to remain in Argentina and not attend a meeting with the club on Monday but discussions have taken place between the two parties.
Tevez, 27, had been requested to return to England by City after he flew home to visit his family last week, apparently without permission from his employers.
However, the Argentine has remained in South America while discussions take place between his advisors and the club.
It is likely that more talks will continue in the next 24 hours and it is anticipated that a solution will be found by the time that the week's international games are over and Roberto Mancini will have his full squad together to prepare for the Newcastle match.
Whatever happens, Tevez has been absent for too long, missing other training sessions, to be in a fit physical shape to be considered for the weekend even if he apologised to manager Roberto Mancini.
Whether Tevez finds a way back with Mancini or is sold in January is still among many issues on the negotiating table.
