I write to the draw the attention of the Assistant Inspector General of Police in-charge of Zone II and the Osun State Commissioner of Police to the unnecessary traffic jam on some major roads in the state mainly caused by officers and men of the Nigeria Police Force.
Commuters on most of the highways in the state, where regular and Highway Patrol Policemen do mount roadblocks for stop-and-search operations are being subjected to untold hardship.
Though, they claim to be preventing crime by mounting the roadblocks, but observations have shown that whenever policemen stop a car and order its driver to open the boot, they are only pretending and trying to perfect their ways of collecting N20 bribe.
They collect the N20 from the driver inside the boot while pretending to be searching the boot.
My question is; why must the policemen block a highway with big log of woods? It is absolute absurd and uncommonsensical for the police to be blocking the expressway with objects that could cause accidents.
I doubt if the AIG and the Commissioner for Police do travel on Gbongan-Ibadan expressway, Osogbo-Iwo road and other highways; they would have been held hostage by the long traffic jam being caused by their men.
I am not against security checkpoints, but there is no need for creating traffic jam on the highway. The policemen do on most occasions, cause accident on and run away, leaving the victims in pains.
The policemen should stop this and face the security challenges facing the state and stop killing Nigerians on the expressway through avoidable accidents. They should stop causing unnecessary headaches for commuters.
