Summary/Description:
• The mission of the International Foundation for Education and Self-Help (IFESH) is to support African nations in their efforts to eradicate poverty, disease and inequity through self-help partnership programs.
• IFESH (www.ifesh.org) is seeking an experienced and qualified Chief of Party (COP) to implement a five year conflict resolution project in Nigeria. The possible srtarting date is February 2012. Position is subject to IFESH being awarded the contract.
• On behalf of IFESH, the COP will oversee and manage all aspects of the USAID-funded Conflict Halt and Negation of Growing Extremism (CHANGE) Project in Abuja, Nigeria.
Major responsibilities include ensuring compliance with the CHANGE Cooperative Agreement; developing project work plans; representing IFESH at relevant meetings with government, project sponsors, NGOs/CBOs, implementing partners; and ensuring that targets are met and that staff and project resources are used effectively and efficiently.
Specific Duties and Responsibilities:
• Provide overall management, strategic direction and leadership to the CHANGE project • Ensure high-quality planning through guidance and support that is grounded in the program's strategic objectives which adheres to expected technical quality and reporting requirements
• Collaborate and liaise effectively with government, project sponsors, NGOs/CBOs, and implementing partners to ensure successful coordination of the project activities
• Oversee project implementation, financial management, administration, local staff recruitment, local implementing partner involvement, monitoring, evaluation and reporting at the country level.
• Ensure that the project is successfully implemented and is in compliance with donor and IFESH requirements
• Supervise technical, financial, and program staff
• Guide and oversee the alignment of the budget to expected results
• Prepare quarterly and annual progress reports
• Represent IFESH headquarters at relevant meetings and forums in Nigeria.
Qualifications and Experience:
• A bachelor's and/or master's degree in management, international development or a related field
• At least ten years experience of international development project management experience
• A minimum of five years experience in conflict prevention, management and resolution • Experience in managing complex projects involving multiple implementing partners
• A strong team player with excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a challenging, fast-paced environment
• Good computer, financial management and analytical skills
• Strong oral and written communication skills
• A practical, working knowledge of USAID rules and regulations
• A good knowledge of Nigeria's current political, social and economic landscape would be an advantage, as would previous working experience in the country
• Fluency in English required, as is a valid passport.
