CAPTAIN Idris Wada of People's Democratic Party (PDP) has been declared winner of Saturday's governorship election in Kogi State. He polled 300,372 votes to beat the Action Congress (ACN) candidate and former governor of the state, Prince Abaubakar Audu who garnered 159, 913 votes.
The Independent National Electoral Commission's ( INEC) Returning Officer, Prof. Shamsideen Amali, returned Wada as the duly elected candidate having satisfied all requirements specified in the nation's Electoral Act 2010 and the 1999 constitution.
PDP won in 18 of the 21 local governments in the state while ACN clinched the remaining three local councils, Amali stated.
He further added that the scores show a difference of 140,459 votes between the PDP and the ACN.
ANPP scored 9,642 votes to clinch the third position while CPC came fourth with 5,724 votes.
In all, 19 political parties presented candidates for the election.
Kogi is one of the five states where election did not hold in April this year because of a court judgment that elongated the tenures of the governors.
Other states were Adamawa, Bayelsa, Sokoto and Cross River states.
According to the electoral time table released by INEC, the tenure of Governor Ibrahim Idris of Kogi State ended on December 3, 2011.
