Thousands of Finnish motorists face a ban on driving, writes the regional newspaper Savon Sanomat. The Finnish Transport Safety Agency (Trafi) says around 75,000 drivers have sufficient offences on their record to merit a ban if they commit any further motoring violations.
The police must issue a driving licence suspension of between one to six months if the same motorist commits four road offences within two years, or three within the space of one year.
Since last summer, using a mobile phone without a hands-free device when behind the wheel has been added to the list along with speeding and parking offences.
Together with police, Trafi also monitors offences and advises guilty motorists if they are approaching the driving ban threshold.
