SUPER Eagles coach Stephen Keshi has begged Nigerian fans to put behind them the bizarre miss by Yakubu Aiyegbeni in the 2010 World Cup and pardon the Blackburn Rovers of England forward.
Yakubu who has yet to feature for Nigeria since that terrible miss in front of an empty goal against South Korea at last year's World Cup in South Africa put up a five star performance for his club last weekend and is fast winning the heart of Keshi.
The former Super Eagles skipper pleads with Nigerians not to continue to hold grudges against the Blackburn Rovers striker, even as he has made it very clear he will not think twice about recalling Yakubu if he maintains his current form.
''We can't keep crucifying him for the errors of the World Cup, he has done more to win back the heart of the fans. What more do you want from a striker than scoring goals.
''You have a player who scores not just one goal but four in the English Premier League, whose quality we all very much know, and he is a Nigerian and you still want me to leave him out? If he keeps this form, he will be in my team,'' said Keshi who said he will use the best players available to revive Nigeria's dwindling fortunes in the game.
''We must revive Nigerian football and only the best players can help me do that. The best players will make this country proud again," he told MTNFootball.com
The Eagles coach plans a 10-day training camp for players from the Nigeria Premier League before the end of the year.
