AS the clamouring continues in some quarters that the Blackburn Rovers striker and out of favour former Super Eagles striker, Yakubu Aiyegbeni be recalled to the national team, former Nigeria World Cup skipper, Austin Jay Jay Okocha has kicked against it.
"It is sad that at this time of our football we are talking about bringing back Yakubu when we should be looking for fresh blood to take our game to the next level," the NFF technical committee member said.
"No doubt, Yakubu is having a good time in the EPL now, scoring regularly for Blackburn. But if you ask for my opinion, I would say that it is better for a coach to fail with fresh players than old ones.
"With new ones, everyone will know the coach is rebuilding a new team and the blame will not be much even if such an experiment does not work."
It would be recalled that Aiyegbeni missed a begging scoring chance in last group match of the World Cup against Korea and as a result of this many Nigerians have not forgiven him to the extent that all his moves were booed during the testimonial match for Kanu Nwankwo at the Teslim Balogun Stadium months back.
Speaking further the former PSG and Bolton star midfielder also said both former internationals Samson Siasia and Austin Eguavoen failed as national team coaches saying,"they failed and their performance was a bad reflection on the competence of other local coaches".
Okocha also revealed that he has had a rethink about taking up a coaching career.
"I said previously that I don't want to be a football coach, but now I am seriously considering a change of heart because it would be a disservice to the next generation if I stuck to my guns not to coach," he said.
