Finnish Police say Christmas Eve was a busy time for officers. However, they say it was no worse than an ordinary weekend. Officers in the Helsinki area and the province of Uusimaa were kept busy on Christmas Eve and overnight with various domestic incidents, drink driving offenders and drunks. Police in Oulu also reported a busy night. Elsewhere, Christmas Eve passed mainly without incident.
Police in Helsinki say they received 226 calls on Christmas Eve and on the morning of Christmas Day. This compares to 126 a year ago.
A total 15 drunk driving offenders were apprehended compared to only four a year ago.
In Oulu, police were kept busy after midnight dealing with rowdy behavior and domestic incidents.
So far, only two fatal road crashes have been reported.
