WHen in 1973, the Military Government of General Yakubu Gowon set up the Petroleum Equalisation Fund, the objective was to ensure stability and uniformity in the prices of petroleum products that is consumed in the country, regardless of the cost differential in transportation of the product from the refineries to the various depots and thereon to the filling stations.
