The former Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Ibrahim Dasuki, said an all-inclusive governance through the constitution of permanent peace committees at various levels would provide the needed solution to tackle the violent activities of Boko Haram.
Dasuki, who is the 18th Sultan, spoke to a group of journalists yesterday at his Miyetti Allah residence in Kaduna as part of his 91st birthday celebration.
Dasuki, who described the roadmap as his birthday gift to Nigerians, said the plan was conceptualized in his "1993 peaceful co-existence plan" to confront security challenges in the country.
He expressed optimism that his proposal would overcome the current security challenges, noting that the peace committee would consists of all citizens from the grassroots up to the national level.
"By the special grace of Almighty Allah, I am 91 years by Islamic calendar. But for the rest of you Nigerians who own the future of this country, I am not expecting any birthday gift from you, rather, I am offering this plan to the nation to be used in addressing the present security challenges.
"This is the 1993 Peaceful Co-existence Plan that I came up with and sold to the Babangida administration to tackle the then intra and inter states crises. It was applied to resolve Jukun and Tiv crises in Taraba and Benue states. I believe strongly that, if it used now, it will help bring the security challenges confronting Nigeria to an end," he said.
Dasuki also distributed a 8-page booklet titled "Sultan Ibrahim Dasuki 1993 Peaceful Co-existence Plan."
According to the plan, the intra-state committee should meet quarterly in February, May, August and November; state committees should meet four times a year in March, June, September and December, while zonal and national committees should meet twice and once a year respectively April and October and January for national committee.
It explained that the committees would be expected to discuss the security challenges facing the country, the solution to the problems and steps to be taken to curb the challenges.
