Post by: innocent on Feb 17, 2012, 12:07 PM
The send-forth party organised by the National Youths Service Corps, NYSC, Batch A 2011-2012 held in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital yesterday turned bloody as one of the corps members was stabbed with a broken bottle. The stabbed corps member, identified as Uchenna, was stabbed on the forehead during a quarrel that ensued between him and another member identified as Chinonso Johnson at the headquarters of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, NUJ, in Abeokuta.

The incident happened at about 5.20 pm yesterday. National Mirror gathered that Uchenna was accidentally caught inbetween two corps members who were apparently in a show of superiority after drinking themselves to stupor. Chinonso Johnson, an indigene of Imo State, who also confessed to being a member of a cult group, had earlier engaged another corps member in a quarrel that nearly ended Uchenna's life.

Johnson has however, been handed over to the police. Earlier, the Osun State South-West Coordinator II Osogbo, Mrs. Abosede Olubunmi Aderibigbe, had, at the passing out ceremony at the state's secretariat advised the corps members to be security conscious by not travelling to their various destinations with the uniform. The coordinator lamented that corps members in recent time had become target of kidnappers.

The security situation in the country warrants us to always play safe, because the problem we are facing here and there in Nigeria necessitate that we play safe.
