The policeman who allegedly shot an employee of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) in a passenger bus on Sunday in Lagos may soon be charged to court.
An investigation by the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) at the Lagos State Police Command, Ikeja, on Thursday revealed that the command had concluded his Orderly Room trial.
The command's Deputy Commissioner of Police, 'A' Department, Adams Audu, who confirmed the trial, however, said that the Provost had yet to present the panel's report.
NAN gathered that the passenger was allegedly shot dead when the armed policeman was reportedly struggling to bring the vehicle to a stop at the Barracks bus-stop, Ojo.
Audu explained that the command was waiting to receive the report of the trial before taking a decision on the matter, adding that the suspect would be prosecuted if found culpable.
According to him, "the Commissioner of Police is in a position to take any action he considers appropriate against any policeman indicted over a criminal offence.
NAN gathered that the Orderly Room trial commenced on Sunday, shortly after the policeman's arrest and had been in detention at the state command headquarters in Ikeja ever since his arrest.
