TO check unemployment, the Enugu State government has lifted the embargo on employment into its civil service saying it was part of its efforts to facilitate job creation.
The state Commissioner for Information, Mr.Chuks Ugwoke disclosed this at the end of the state Executive Council meeting presided over by the Governor Sullivan Chime.
He said that with the lifting of the embargo, the State Civil Service Commission had been mandated to call for memos on vacancy positions from government universities, departments and agencies and follow due process in employing qualified candidates to fill existing vacancies.
The commissioner who was accompanied during the press briefing by the Special Advisers to the Governor on Agriculture Mr. Victor Agbo, and that of Millenium Development Goals (MDGs )Mr. Okezie Nwanjoku and the State Head of Service, Dennis Eze said that the council had approved the verification exercise in the state service to take care of those who were not captured biometrically due to their inability to complete their commendation before the exercise ended.
He added that others involved in the verification exercise were newly recruited staff, those absorbed into ministries and others with other genuine reasons.
According to Ugwoke , the state Executive Council also approved the state department management policy and procedure manual for use by stakeholders. The state management department, he said would advise the governor on debt matters.
