The Police Service Commission today approved the dismissal of former Commissioner of Police, Zakari Biu.
Biu had been dismissed from the Force once before, in 1999, and was reinstated into the Force only in 2010. He was also due to retire from the Force at the end of this month having attained the mandatory age oh 60.
"The Police Service Commission, after due consideration of the role played by Commissioner of Police, Hassan Zakari Biu, in the escape of the Boko Haram suspect, Kabiru Sokoto, today 22nd February, 2012 approved the dismissal of Mr. Hassan Zakari BiuĀ from the Nigeria Police Force with effect from February 22, 2012", a statement issued at after the 26th Plenary Meeting of the Commission said.
Biu had been suspended from the Force on January 17, 2011 after the mentioned escape at Abaji in the Federal Capital Territory. Sokoto was re-arrested 27 days after in Taraba state.
The meeting also promoted the Executive Chairman, Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), Ibrahim A. Lamorde to the rank of Deputy Commissioner of Police. Seven others were also promoted to DIGs and 13 were made AIGs.
