Duration and scope of studies: 3.5 years, 210 credits
This degree programme provides education in the area of information technology. In the next several years we anticipate an increasing demand for IT specialists, particularly with competence of information security. Degree Programme in Business Information Technology (BIT) in Kemi
* focuses on information security and software design and development
* utilises lectures, online courses, working in IT labs and projects with real tasks from companies as learning methods
* provides students with laptops.
The degree programme allows graduates to work as information security specialists, software engineers, system analysts and designers. A good deal of business courses related to IT is included in the study programme thus supporting also IT project management or IT analyst career developments.
The degree programme is based on the most efficient learning and teaching methods. Project-based learning and courses where the students are getting practical skills are used in the programme. The Department has an IT laboratory where students can be in contact with the business life of the region, working with real tasks from companies. New students starting their studies in autumn 2010 will get laptop computers for their use during their studies. Students can implement their practical training in Finland or abroad.
Education in English provides an excellent opportunity to the students to make a better career in the future. Most of the IT companies prefer specialists with fluent English since the degree of internationalisation in this area is enormous. This increases the opportunities for our students on the labour market.
BIT students can apply for the Transatlantic Degree Programme in Information Systems (TraDIS), which also involves the University of Massachusetts (in Boston and Dartmouth) and Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences. Within the TraDIS programme, students spend half a year in each of the partner schools and have an opportunity to get two degrees: one from their home institution and another from a partner school, which is significantly enhancing career opportunities after graduation. The TraDIS programme is open for EU-citizens.

This is really nice and makes sense. Why paying thousands of dollar or pounds for a degree programme if you can get it for free and quality still remains similar?

The admission usually starts in January and ends in February but before then you need to have done your english test (TOEFL or IELTS) and score the recommended mark. Information on the have been posted before on this forum.

Please note that Universities of Applied Sciences in Finland do operate joint admission. With this, you are permitted to choose four programmes and four universities.
