OWERRI—Imo State Police Command has arrested three suspected kidnappers, armed robbers or assassins and recovered a cache of sophisticated arms and ammunition.
Disclosing this to Vanguard in Owerri, the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Samuel Oodee, said a crack team of policemen stormed the home of a native doctor, Cyriacus Uzoma, where the bandits were nabbed at Oguta.
He said: "On arrival, the police ran into the gang who were in the process of divination to decipher if their next operation would be successful or not. Two of the hoodlums and the native doctor were immediately arrested."
Oodee said the suspects, who at the time were led by one Chibuzor Okoronta, had been operating in a black 4Runner SUV with number-plate Abuja HV 431 ABC.
He said: "On searching the vehicle, two AK 47 rifles, one AK 49 rifle, one rocket launcher, nine missiles, 21 AK 47 empty magazines and 106 rounds of live AK 47 ammunition were recovered."
The PPRO said the vehicle belonged to one Michael Ani, a Port Harcourt-based businessman, adding that a driver's licence found in the car belonged to one Chikwado, who incidentally is the gang's driver.
