By SaharaReporters, New York Gunmen suspected to be of the Boko Haram militia on Tuesday evening in Kano attacked a Joint Task Force (JTF) checkpoint at Gwammaja and shot dead two policemen. The suspects, who were said to have been on a motorcycle, also injured a soldier.
The JTF spokesman, Lieutenant Ikedichi Iweha, confirmed to reporters that one member of the sect was also shot dead.
Commercial activities in Kano now seem to be on the decline because of fear among traders who close their shops early and leave for home.
Most of the people who spoke with our correspondent expressed fear of staying long in the market. One of them told SaharaReporters he believes “serious precaution” is now called for.
Last Monday, the Mandawari Police station was attacked. The day before that, two armed men on motorcycles also attacked a police officer residence located in Tarauni local government of the state. That officer bravely disarmed one of the hoodlums and shot him dead with the riffle.
The police recovered a Jinchen motorcycle and 21 rounds of live ammunition, which were abandoned by the other suspects.
