The federal capital territory would come alive on March 27 when the Nigeria Olympic Committee, NOC, rolls out the drum to decorate His Excellency, Dr. Goodluck Ebele Jonathan as the Grand Patron of the body.
The Grand Patron's dinner which was earlier scheduled for NICON Hilton has now been confirmed to hold at the Ladi Kwali Hall, Sheraton and would also see all the Governors in attendance as well as captains of industry and to be supported by our greatest Olympians and sportsmen and women.The unique event also coincides with the celebration of 60 meritorious years of the Olympic movement in Nigeria.
Part of the event's program include the formal investiture of Mr. President, Dr Jonathan as the NOC's Grand Patron, a noble and traditional role which had been graciously performed by his predecessors in office.
Chairman of NOC's Marketing Commission and President of Nigeria Hockey Federation, Mr Patrick Ukah said that the night would be made memorable as it would be used to unveil the robust commercial opportunities that could be leveraged on by Corporate partners as well as prapare Nigerian athletes for the London 2012 Olympic Games. "It will be a night to remember for the President, Governors and captains of industry as well as stakeholders in sports. The Olympics is the most exciting sports event in the world and Nigeria, no doubt, is set to sparkle in London", Ukah said. The Marketing Commission Chairman lauded the Minister of Sports, Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi and NSC Director-General Dr Patrick Ekeji for providing the enabling environment for the event. "I must laud the Minister and the DG for the synergy between the NSC and the NOC. It is a great departure from old and now they have shown that the welfare of the athletes come first".
President of NOC, Engr Sani M. Ndanusa noted that "we are on a medal streak and hopefully it will continue at the London 2012 Olympic Games. The NOC is focussing on fortifying to the ultimate extent all possible medal. We're going to London to compete and not to participate", Engr Ndanusa
