Vice President Muhammad Namadi Sambo and the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Abubakar Sa'ad III, yesterday tasked Federal Radio Corporation of Nigeria (FRCN), Kaduna to make efforts at restoring peace to the North through its programmes.
Sambo made the call yesterday during the closing ceremony of activities lined up for the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the station in Kaduna. Sambo was represented by Kaduna State Governor Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa.
In his remarks, Information Minister Labaran Maku, who was the chief host, said media practitioners in the region should propagate peace.
The Sultan, represented by the Emir of Kano, Alhaji Ado Bayero, urged the radio station to help restore peace in the North, saying the late Premier of the Northern Region, Ahmadu Bello Sardauna of Sokoto, set up the radio station to propagate unity.
The Director General of FRCN, Mr Yusuf Nuhu, said the station would continue with the legacy left behind by the founder, Sir Ahmadu Bello.
On his part, the Zonal Director of the station, Ladan Salihu, described the station as the most vibrant in sub-Saharan Africa with over 42 million listeners.
The 3-day event ended yesterday.
