Kigali - Rwanda's supreme court on Friday postponed the verdict in the appeal of journalists Agnes Uwimana Nkusi and Saidati Mukakibibi, serving jail terms of 17 and seven years for genocide denial and inciting unrest.
"They have announced a delay because they need more information," a clerk in the court registrar's office told AFP. "They will hold court again on April 5, and the verdict will be announced then."
This is the second time the verdict has been postponed. It had originally been expected on February 17.
Nkusi, editor of the Umurabyo newspaper, was last year convicted of defamation, causing divisions and denying Rwanda's 1994 genocide.
Mukakibibi, the publication's reporter, was found guilty of inciting civil disobedience.
"The announcement of an adjournment today came as a surprise," said lead defence counsel, London-based lawyer John Jones.
"Nonetheless, we eagerly await the court's ruling when it is handed down in April, which I trust and hope will be favourable to the journalists." - Sapa-AFP
