ABUJA—SENATE President David Mark has reiterated that holding public office at all levels must be seen as a sacrifice, call to serve humanity and not an opportunity for self- aggrandisement.

Senator Mark told the newly-elected Peoples Democratic Party, PDP officials in Makurdi, Benue State, at Saturday's congress that leadership required the ability to manage human and material resources effectively for the general good.

Senate President Mark, who stressed the need for all party members to be carried along in the scheme of things, to avoid circumstances of disaffection, said: ''Even those who defected to other parties should be encouraged to return to the fold."

He said, with the successful conduct of the state congress and others, PDP had demonstrated that it has the capacity to conduct its internal affairs democratically.

He also urged the people not to give up in supporting PDP as the credible platform to deliver dividends of democracy to the citizenry.

Mark noted the achievements recorded by the party in the past and submitted that under the party, credible, free and fair election  was guaranteed in the country.

In his remarks, Governor Gabriel Suswam said the achievements of his administration had put paid to rumour by opposition parties that his government was not performing.

Suswam told his people to ignore allegations by the opposition parties ''because the facts are on ground that we are delivering on our promises to the people of Benue State."

In the PDP state congress, all the former executive members, led by Dr. Agbo Emmanuel, were returned unopposed.
